What is Melanated Mindfulness?
Descendents of the African diaspora have been impacted by what science refers to as epigenetic (or inherited) trauma. This trauma likely has physiological manifestations in the body, mind and behavior patterns. Mindfulness meditation cannot reverse biological impacts of trauma; however, the experiential practice and application of tools on mindfulness of the breath, body and emotions have been proven to provide measurable benefits. Mindfulness meditation is not a religious practice, but rather a practice which aids in increasing attention, intention and focus. It has been largely ascribed to white and Asian-bodied humans. However, its benefits are accessible for all practitioners. All are welcome with a special invitation to Black + Brown folks for this 6-week series which includes an introduction to guided meditation + mindfulness conversation in workshop format. Donations are appreciated; admission is FREE!
